Oren founded Oren's Daily Roast. I was introduced to him at a Specialty Coffee show by Tea and Coffee Trade Journal writer Shea Sturdivant. Shea told me she thought Oren and I had similar sense of humor. We did, but we shared something else -- a passion for Chemex manual coffee brewers. I travel to New York frequently and I usually try to sneak over to Oren's office for some Chemex-brewed coffee. Oren's a no-nonsense coffee guy. He once visited a coffee farm in Ethiopia who told him they weren't getting paid by their third-party fair trade organization and he decided on the spot to buy direct, even though it cost him a fair-trade label. He's the kind of person who makes specialty coffee really special and he brews a mean Chemex cup.
