If you've read any book about coffee, chances are pretty good that it was written by Ken Davids. His book Coffee, was not the first consumer book about coffee, but it was the first book written in the voice of a novelist who was sharing his journey with the reader. Ken has written definitive coffee books about roasting and espresso, and his original book is in several editions; I have every one. Ken also happens to be a teacher, a professor of art history. I've had the pleasure to travel with Ken, and even collaborate with him and our time together is always a nonstop nonlinear venture into a myriad of subjects, most which passionately interest us both. We almost never completely agree about anything, yet we are almost creepily interested in the same things and we share passion and compassion. Ken has never been anything less than one of my closest friends. When I was taken ill once, Ken phoned my wife constantly for updates. He's really a great guy and a great writer, a rare combination. I've given you two clips from the show that demonstrate his prodigious knowledge and strong-as-espresso opinions. One is an outtake, but I think you’ll enjoy it... and realize why it didn’t make it into the final program.
