| I used to serve on the Specialty Coffee Association's technical standards committee. I found a bunch of obsessive intuitive types, who for the most part, scoffed at science and common sense. Randy was a refreshing counterbalance to that. He really listened to others and he did radical things like research before he developed an opinion. For years, an open secret in the specialty coffee world is how good Boyds coffee is, in spite of how large they are. They prove it is possible to be big and still deliver the goods. Randy is part of why. I wanted him in the video to provide balance and, besides, his company does things differently -- they have to. You just can't ship coffee to thousands of stores each day and be a micro-roaster. But, they do some coffees that make me think bigger is better and they understand packaging, pre-ground and brewing as well as any company and Randy is their main guy. Take a look at what I mean.
